Tamar’s Place–A Safe Have of Support, Empowerment and Hope for Women Involved in Prostitution
Tamar's Place is a safe haven of support, empowerment and hope for women in prostitution who suffer from the disease of addiction. The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in the United States began this mission in June of 2010 to serve these women living on the streets in Over-the-Rhine. Tamar's Place offers light breakfast food, coffee, juice and an array toiletries with bathroom facility and a place of rest from everything outside our doors. There is no judgment or pressure to change their lifestyle; however, the seeds of recovery are planted. Our hope is that a new way of living gradually begins to take root through a warm, welcoming approach of loving care with dignity and our witness of a different life without substance abuse and prostitution to support it. In nearly five years, we have served hundreds of women with a dozen of them now clean, sober and remaining abstinent. One of them said, "I have so much gratitude for how Tamar's Place helped me. There is just nothing like it in my fifteen years of drug abuse."
